What I Wish I Knew About Consistency (That Changed Everything in My Business and Life)
Consistency isn’t just about discipline.
I used to think it was. That to be consistent, I had to become this super-disciplined woman who woke up at 5 a.m., journaled, meditated, and crushed her to-do list every single day.
That wasn’t me.
And because I didn’t see myself that way, I didn’t believe I could be consistent. I thought, “They have discipline—I don’t.”
But now, when I get up early to journal, spend time in devotion, go for a walk and ease into my day with purpose, I smile—because I see how much I’ve evolved.
Here’s what I wish I knew sooner:
Being consistent isn’t a character trait. It’s a framework. It’s a tool. And it reveals what’s working—and what isn’t.
It helps you figure out if the things you're doing are aligned with who you want to become. It helps you notice how you feel, whether something energises or drains you. Whether it’s worth the effort.
What I Thought Consistency Was vs. What It Actually Is
Before I got here, I followed creators and entrepreneurs like Mattie James, Courtney Sanders, and Myleik Teele. They talked about systems, structure, and the power of showing up consistently. I listened, but it didn’t stick.
Why? Because I didn’t believe I had what they had.
I thought: “They have discipline. They’re built for this. I’m not. This won’t happen for me.” Mind you, this was almost 10 years ago.
But something shifted when I got intentional.
I stopped waiting to “feel ready” or “when I felt like it” and started showing up (for me)—even if it was imperfect or small.
What Consistency Actually Looks Like
Let me be real: my consistency didn’t start with a 90-day plan or a goal to hit 10K steps daily.
It didn’t begin with revenue goals either.
It started with frustration—pure and simple.
I was tired of wanting results I wasn’t genuinely working toward. I kept trying to be consistent by doing too much, setting unrealistic expectations, and ignoring my lifestyle, energy, and capacity, and how it played a role in everything, whether I needed to shift things around by adding or eliminating.
My first aha moment?
Doing more doesn’t mean doing better.
Simple works.
Overload burns you out.
And finding what works for you is where the magic lies.
So instead of chasing hustle, I created a framework that fit my real life.
The Framework That Helped Me Stay Consistent (And See Results)
Here’s how I began building consistency in a way that finally worked:
Set a clear goal.
What do I want to achieve?
In business: visibility, conversions, trust, confidence.
In life: to feel better, look good, improve mental and physical health, and boost focus and energy.Map out the “how.”
What tactics align with those goals?
Business: Post 3 times a week on a particular platform, email my list X times (per month), and go live X times (per month).
Health: walk 3x a week at a certain pace or time, track how I feel when I walk and when I don’t.Check your capacity.
What drains me? What feels like a burden? What still feels doable on tough days?Build a plan around that capacity.
I didn’t aim for perfection—I just focused on what I could do and built on it (and constantly challenged myself).
I created a minimum standard I could stick to.Track patterns and adjust.
I paid attention to what worked, what didn’t, and how I felt.
➤ I reviewed content analytics.
➤ I checked in on how I felt during/after morning walks.
➤ I noticed which habits helped and which ones sabotaged my effort.
This process taught me what to do and what to let go of. It helped me align my actions with my energy, not just my ambitions.
The Results Were Subtle at First
My first real breakthrough was less than a year ago. I had just gone full-time in my business and knew content creation was essential to my process.
This time, I had a strategy. I didn’t post randomly—I had a plan. And I stuck with it.
That’s when consistency stopped feeling like a chore.
I began to see my strengths more clearly. I noticed what I avoided. I learned what drained me. And I gained clarity on where I needed support.
And yes—the results came: visibility, engagement, leads, growth.
But the most important result?
Confidence.
What I Want You to Know (Especially If You’re an Entrepreneur Trying to Stay Consistent)
If you’re trying to be consistent in your business or life, start here:
Stop aiming for perfection.
Match your goals with your current capacity. Also, add something that will stretch you a little.
Pick one area to show up consistently in. Then build from there.
Treat consistency like data. It shows you what’s working—and what isn’t.
You don’t need to do more. You need to do what matters—consistently.
So yes, discipline helps. But what makes consistency sustainable?
Intention
Effort
The decision to keep showing up—even in small ways.
A plan that fits your real life, not just your ideal life.
